A horrific accident on Interstate 80 in Sugar House, Utah has resulted in the tragic death of a semi truck driver.

On Tuesday evening, two UHP troopers narrowly avoided being struck by a speeding semi truck which plowed through several construction barrels and then caused an uncontrollable fire when it collided with another semi truck.

All lanes of I-80 have since been reopened but authorities are still attempting to determine the cause of this crash.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday as construction crews worked to paint underneath the 1300 East bridge located off I-80 westbound in Salt Lake City.

The first semi truck was reportedly travelling freeway speeds when it clipped a pickup truck before subsequently hitting the back of another semi truck causing it to jackknife.

Unfortunately, this collision set off a chain reaction that culminated with the first semi crashing into a trailer full of epoxy paint and bursting into flames which forced officials to close down both directions of I-80 while they extinguished the fire.

Afterwards, emergency responders discovered that the unfortunate driver had perished inside their cab – as of now their identity remains unknown.

UHP is currently conducting an investigation into what could have caused such a fatal crash although there is no word yet regarding any potential suspects or factors involved in this tragedy.

This incident has left many residents feeling shaken and unsafe given its proximity to their homes as well as its sheer scale and severity.

Some individuals were even stuck for hours due to road closures until all lanes were eventually reopened late last night at 10:30pm local time.
