Shark Tank Star Kevin O’Leary’s Wife Linda Has Been Charged With Careless Operation Of A Vessel
The charges stem from a boating accident last month, that took the lives of two people, and injured three others. Kevin O’Leary said at the time of the accident, that any video available, will prove the other boat did not have lights on.
Kevin O’Leary, a Canadian business man, has been on the highly rated finance reality show, ‘Shark Tank’ for ten years. Linda O’Leary,56, was driving the boat at the time of the accident.
Her husband was on the boat, along with 4 other passengers, a female passenger on the O’Leary boat was also injured. The accident occurred on Lake Joseph, in Ontario, Canada on August 24, the couple own a home on Lake Joseph.
Mrs. O’Leary, was charged with ‘dangerous operation of a vessel’. The operator of the other boat, Richard Ruth, was also charged with ‘failing to display a navigation light’, while underway. The charge that Ruth received seems to verify what Kevin O’Leary originally said, ‘the other boat not having lights on’.
According To The Official Police Report The O’Leary Boat Crashed Into The Much Larger Ruth Boat
The O’Leary boat first made contact with the bow of the Ruth boat and hit passenger, Gary Potash in his head. Potash was on vacation from Florida, he died instantly. Another passenger Susanne Brito, was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries, she died the next day in the hospital.
Three other people on the Ruth boat were transported to a hospital with injuries. One was released later that night the other two were released the next day. There was also a woman on the O’Leary boat that had sustained injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
Kevin O’Leary, immediately offered his prayers and condolences to the families and friends of those that died, and were injured. The Ontario Police Department, who was in charge of the investigation said, Mrs. O’Leary was at fault. According to video surveillance, Mrs. O’Leary was driving her boat at 17 mph, which is not ‘a safe speed’ the police said.

Linda O’Leary, has a court date of October 29th, when the official charges will be read.O’Leary will then enter a plea. An expert on these types of cases told ‘Fox News’ that the charge wouldn’t normally be that serious, but with two fatalities, it could be. He also said, that if she pleads guilty or is found guilty, it opens the door for massive lawsuits, for wrongful death.
At the time of the accident, Kevin O’Leary said “On late Saturday night I was a passenger on a boat that was involved with a collusion with another boat”. “The boat had no navigation lights on and fled the scene”. “I am fully cooperating with law enforcement”. He went on to say due to the investigation he would refrain from making additional comments.
