Who do CNN and Chris Cuomo think they are fooling?
After announcing on March 31 that he had the COVID-19 coronavirus, the CNN anchor supposedly self-quarantined in his Southampton basement. He posted several videos showing how strictly he was observing quarantine.Â
Misleading Reporting by CNN
Now, weeks later, Cuomo is accused of staging his dramatic âemergenceâ from that basement to rejoin his family. In the CNN video for âCuomo Prime Timeâ, he even narrates:
“Alright, here it is… the official re-entry from the basement, cleared by the CDC,” Cuomo says as he comes up the stairs. “This is what I’ve been dreaming of, literally, for weeks.“
“This is the dream, just to be back up here doing normal things.â
The dramatic video seemingly depicts Cuomoâs first time leaving the basement.
An Easter Incident
But over Easter weekend, the 49-year-old Cuomo was involved in a heated verbal altercation on his property with a passing bicyclist.Â
According to the New York Post, âDavidâ, a 65-year-old local resident, was riding by on Easter Sunday. But when he saw the CNN anchor outside with a small group of people, David paused and hassled Cuomo.
âI just looked and said, âIs that Chris Cuomo? Isnât he supposed to be quarantined?‘â David recalls.
â(Cuomo) said, âWho the hell are you?! I can do what I want!’ He just ranted, screaming, âIâll find out who you are!â” I said to him, âYour brother is the coronavirus czar, and youâre not even following his rules â unnecessary travel.'”
Chris is the brother of current New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the son of former Governor Mario Cuomo.
David continues, “He said, âThis is not the end of this. Youâll deal with this later. We will meet again.â If thatâs not a threat, I donât know what is.â
This is more than just some unsubstantiated story. The next day, Cuomo himself said:
âI donât want some jackass, loser, fat tire biker being able to pull over and get in my space and talk bulls— to me, I donât want to hear it.”
Slammed by Conservatives
Cuomo was the target of widespread outrage.
Karol Markowicz, a columnist for the New York Post, wrote, “Is this a joke? Yes, this is from Stelter’s newsletter. Chris Cuomo was in East Hampton 8 days ago. This is bananas.â
Author James Hasson slammed Cuomo as well.
“He got in an altercation with a cyclist who called him out for violating his quarantine roughly a week ago. And here is CNN saying he has been riding out his quarantine in ‘his basement’ for ‘the last several weeks.’ I hate the term fake news. But this is literally *fake* news.â
Jerry Dunleavy of the Washington Examiner wrote:
“What sort of gaslighting is this? Chris Cuomo didn’t just emerge from a basement quarantine – I mean, the guy got in a well-publicized fight with a biker outside of his second home in the Hamptons on Easter. This is … pretty shameless stuff by CNN.â
Finally, Curtis Houck, the Managing Editor of NewsBusters, slammed the network, saying:
“This is a proven lie. As usual, CNN doesn’t care about the facts (or most of you).â
