The parade came to an abrupt halt and it was all for one reason…the good news is that she said YES to what he asked her!
What do you think of when you think of the Fourth of July? If you’re like many others, you probably think of parades, street performers, and all kinds of other festivities. It was Monday on the last Fourth of July that the CarmelFest Parade rolled into town, but it did have to make one surprise stop in particular.
You see, it stopped because one Carmel firefighter named Garrett Locke was going to get on one knee and propose to his girlfriend, Jaclyn Lewis. Thus, the fourth of July is not only going to mean independence for a lot of people, but for this first-responder and his future wife it is going to also mean that it was the time when they first decided to become a married couple.
“I said, forever has to start somewhere, why not start it now?” Locke explained in regards to his recent proposal to his girlfriend.
The Carmel Fire Department captured the sweet moment on camera so that all of Carmel and everyone could see it! This man puts his life on the line for all of the individuals of Carmel, and he is now going to work very hard to be a good husband to his soon-to-be wife as well.
Locke pulled Lewis out into the street right in the big middle of the parade and in front of the crowd. That is when he got down on one knee and he proposed to Lewis.
WRTV learned pretty quickly that Locke and Lewis had only been dating each other for a month before Lewis shipped out to basic training in the Army. It was during that time that the only way they could communicate with each other was through the mail for about 11 weeks. The happy couple said that they were planning on tying the knot in the fall, so they are more than likely newlyweds by now.
