You know a teenage brawl is getting pretty bad when even police officers are getting injured! Just what is going on here?
Two officers became injured and five teens were arrested after they were all involved in a large fight that broke out at a Fort Lauderdale high school just after the dismissal bell had rung on Monday.
Fort Lauderdale police filed a report that stated that the school resource officer at Dillard High School was notified that there was a tremendous disturbance on campus and the man was injured when he tried to intervene. They took him to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to Detective Ali Adamson.
Police didn’t say just what might have brought on the fight, nor did they say just how many had been involved. However, they did note that at least five students were arrested and they are now facing charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer.
First of all, a 17-year-old girl was charged with battery on a police officer and she resisted him with violence, according to law enforcement. The Associated Press is not going to name her because she is a minor.
There were several officers who had to respond to the school so that they could disperse a crowd of students in the brawl who had gathered in the street. That is when a second officer was injured while attempting to arrest a suspect.
Both officers have since been released from the hospital, according to Adamson.
Police also urged parents to talk to their teenage children about the fight and they are actively looking for cell phone videos of this incident.
In a statement to WSVN, Broward County Public Schools said, “The school’s leadership is taking this incident seriously and is working with law enforcement in its investigation. Any students involved will face appropriate school disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Code Book for Student Conduct.”
