Last week, the House voted on a bill to prevent those with terrorist ties, violent criminal histories, and applicants with sexual assaults on their record from being able to work at the TSA.
Not so shockingly, every member of the AOC-led squad voted against the amendment as well as 170 other Democrats.
The Transportation Security Officers Act
The new legislation was written to put TSA workers on par with other federal employees.
There was an amendment proposed to that legislation to block anyone linked with terrorists, sexual offenders, and violent criminals.
Considering the importance of airport security, all these disqualifiers make common sense.
That, however, is not how this group of Democrats saw it.
In all, 174 Democrats refused to vote in favor of the amendment, including Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep. Tlaib (D-MI), and Rep. Pressley (D-MA).
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) did not hold back his disdain for these Democrats not voting in favor of this amendment.
He stated, “[The amendment] was pulled back by leadership because the socialist wing of the party did not want to have that amendment go forward on this bill.
“When it was offered, overwhelmingly the majority of the House would like to see the TSA not hire terrorists or those who have been convicted of sexual misconduct with minors and others.
“But the socialist wing of the party, that controls now the Democratic Party, said that that could not be offered.”
Concern is Real
While I am sure the Democrats are looking at this as some sort of oppressive move by the right, there is real concern about problems at TSA.
We have all seen and/or heard the stories about children being searched improperly, yet Democrats are refusing to back a measure that would help alleviate that as a possibility.
Let’s also not forget, it was only in 2017 when TSA agents were caught trying to smuggle 20 pounds of cocaine into Puerto Rico.
Think about who they were trying to protect by not voting yes… Sex offenders, violent criminals, and terrorists.
That should tell you all you need to know about far too many Democrats in office today.
Luckily, since the amendment had full GOP support, it was still able to be passed, no thanks to Democrat leadership, as Pelosi declined to vote on the measure.
