If you watched the State of the Union address on Tuesday night, you are quite aware of the fact Pelosi lost her cool and shredded her copy of the speech.
Pelosi, on Wednesday, received a standing ovation from her liberal horde, telling them, “He shredded the truth, so I shredded his speech.”
Tensions Rising
According to media reports, President Trump and House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) have not spoken to each other in months.
After their major blowout at a meeting last year, there has been little to no communication between the two party leaders.
Our government was already in a virtual standstill at that time, and it has since come to a grinding halt, with Democrats concentrating on nothing but this impeachment.
Pelosi had been reluctant to move forward with impeachment to that point, but the fallout with Trump and the unrelenting pressure from the far left in the party finally drove her to move forward, a decision she surely regrets at this point.
The SOTU
The State of the Union seemed to be a butting of the heads with several planned moves by both parties.
Pelosi dissed Trump by breaking protocol with her introduction.
Traditionally, the House Speaker says, “Members of Congress, I have the high privilege and distinct honor of presenting to you the president of the United States.”
Pelosi simply stated, “Members of Congress, the president of the United States.”
Trump seemed to have his own snub ready to go by simply handing out the speech and not shaking hands with either Pelosi or Vice President Pence.
Pelosi extended her hand, but Trump had already turned away and was headed back to the podium, leaving her hanging and infuriating her in the process.
She was clearly upset, mumbling and talking to herself throughout the speech.
Pelosi had revenge on her mind at that point, but ripping up the speech only served to infuriate voters on both sides of the aisle.
Still, her liberal horde in the House defended her actions.
As to her reasoning, Trump’s speech may have stretched the truth at times, but, right or wrong, every president does that during their SOTU.
If you fact check every SOTU speech for the last three decades literally, and media outlets like the Washington Post usually do, you will see a laundry list of inaccuracies every year because presidents will often round up on positive numbers for effect.
That surely is not a reason to shred a speech listing the sacrifices made by Americans, their achievements, and a moment that will live forever in the memory of a fourth-grade little girl from Philadelphia that now gets to choose her own school.
The White House touched on this point, tweeting, “Speaker Pelosi just ripped up: One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen. The survival of a child born at 21 weeks. The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller. A service member’s reunion with his family. That’s her legacy.”
No matter how you slice it… this was a HUGE mistake by Pelosi and her party will pay the price for many years to come.
