New York Times Decides to Bash the American Flag

Many conservatives and moderates are calling out the New York Times after the left-wing propaganda outlet decided to bash the American flag.

Anti-American Article

Over Independence Day weekend, the New York Times printed an article titled “A Fourth of July Symbol of Unity That May No Longer Unite.”

This article comes just a few weeks after the newspaper was forced to defend an editorial writer who said she was “really disturbed” to see the American flag flown by Trump supporters.

“Today, flying the American flag from the back of a pickup truck or over a lawn is increasingly seen as a clue, albeit an imperfect one, to a person’s political affiliation in a deeply divided nation,” the Times tweeted.

The author of the article, Sarah Maslin Nir, wrote that Trump supporters embrace the flag “so fervently” that Democrats have “all but ceded the national emblem to the right.”

“What was once a unifying symbol – there is a star on it for each state, after all – is now alienating to some, its stripes now fault lines between people who kneel while ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ plays and those for whom not pledging allegiance is an affront,” Nir wrote.

Is The New York Times Right?

Unfortunately, the New York Times may be right. It may be controversial to say this, but the flag no longer represents half of the country. While most Republicans love their country no matter who is in power, it seems that Democrats don’t even love the country when they are running it, let alone when a Republican is in charge. Over the past few years, the left has been moving away from supporting the flag, and becoming increasingly radical.

Polls show this to be the truth. The New York Times reported in this article that only 34 percent of Democrats associate the American flag with their party. Alongside that statistic, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence of the left not supporting the American flag, like left-wing athletes kneeling for the flag, or the government choosing to fly divisive flags like the pride flag and the BLM flag at government buildings. Washed-up singer Macy Gray even claimed that it is time for a “new flag” that “represents ALL of us,” as Old Glory “no longer represents democracy and freedom.”

Response

Whether it is true or not, the New York Times’ statement elicited a lot of backlash on Twitter.

“When you hate Trump so much you now find the American flag ‘alienating,’” Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, tweeted.

“Apparently loving our country’s flag is now offensive. Disgusting,” wrote Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ).

“How many days till these clowns start saying anyone flying the American flag is a racist? I’ll say less than a week,” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted.

Many Twitter users, including Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL), simply responded with images of American flags.
