I remember when I was five years old, I was grocery shopping with my mom and I took a candy bar.
Not totally understanding the concept of grocery stores at that young of an age, I just grabbed it.
When my mom saw me eating the candy bar on the way home in the car, she asked me where I had gotten the thing.
When I told her that I took it, we drove back to the small store where she made me apologize to the owner.
I have never stolen so much as a penny since then.
I would like to think that I have raised my kids pretty good, especially in the idea of them being honest and not taking shortcuts like stealing.
I am also pretty sure that they know that if I ever caught them doing something that they were not supposed to be doing that I would turn them in so fast that it would make their heads spin.
That being said, it must be a horrible feeling to have to turn your kids into the cops for something that they did.
However, right being right sometimes you just have to do things that you don’t want to do because it is the right thing to do.
There was a case in Maryland recently of a mother that had to do just that.
She had asked her fourteen year old son to have his nine year old niece assist in cleaning the house while the mom laid her two year old down for a nap.
Not hearing what was supposed to be the sounds of someone cleaning a kitchen after a while, the mom walked back to the other side of the house where she happened upon the worst thing imaginable.
Her fourteen year old son was attempting to rape her nine year old niece.
So she made the only right decision she could make. She immediately called the police and the boy was arrested.
The boy is scheduled to be tried as an adult, and could be spending the rest of his life behind bars.
