Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has had about enough of this impeachment and he is ready to put it all behind.
As such, McConnell wants to put the impeachment to a vote to dismiss all charges as soon as possible
Not What Dems Want
Earlier this week, Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) sent a letter to McConnell demanding witnesses be called during the Senate trial.
It was a fairly bold request considering Democrats rigged the House hearings so the Republicans desired witness list was blocked.
Now that it is fairly clear the House never made a realistic case for impeachment, Schumer wants the Senate to clean up their mess
McConnell, however, is having none of it.
He stated, “Have we learned enough after listening to all of this to go on and vote on the two very weak articles of impeachment?
“Or do we have a show trial in which both sides try to embarrass the other and put on an embarrassing scene, frankly, for the American people?
“Obviously, I think we’ve heard enough.”
More Delay Tactics
The articles of impeachment were passed late Wednesday night, but they have yet to be forwarded to the Senate.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-N.Y.) has offered no timeline for when the Senate will get them, either.
It would appear as though all the talking the Republicans did in the media admitting they would vote to dismiss the charges right away is not what Pelosi had in mind.
While I am not sure how long she can hold them, she appears to plan on doing so until Republicans fold and create terms for a trial that works in favor of the Democrats.
If that does not happen, we are already hearing rumblings that she may even try to hold them through the 2020 election season in the hopes Democrats win the Senate and can proceed to own the majority.
Either way, the move by Pelosi is not going to be perceived well by the public, one that is already moving swiftly behind Trump because of what happened in the House.
If Dems use these strongarm tactics, it could very easily result in a massive red wave wiping Democrats out of power and giving Trump the House and Senate he has longed for since he took office.
