I think that at one point or another in all of our lives, at some point we have wanted to own a metal detector.
Now, this might be one of those passing things where you think about it for five minutes and then never do anything about it.
However, there are people out there that own these things. You might have seen one if you were going to the beach a little early in the morning.
I have a friend that used to take one to the beach and he once found one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
He was at the beach, and all of a sudden his metal detector started beeping. He starts digging a little bit and finds a metal money clip with cash inside stuffed into a Ziplock bag.
The only thing that we could figure is that someone took their money to the beach and put it in the bag to keep the cash dry and it got buried somehow.
My only question was why someone was taking five thousand dollars in cash with them to the beach.
Erland Bore is another person who enjoys using his metal detector. On the advice of a doctor to get more exercise, he bought a metal detector and began taking regular walks with it in the countryside near his house.
One day, it started pinging. So he began digging and found himself staring at what he thought initially were those chocolate coins in the foil that we all get around the holidays.
However, it was something more valuable than chocolate.
He apparently found nine pendants, three rings, and ten golden pearks in what CBS News referred to as the largest gold find in Norway in nearly a hundred years.
What makes this even more interesting is that the gold itself was looked at by researchers and have come to the conclusion that the old is somewhere around fifteen hundred years old.
Now, I can’t say for certain that if everyone went out and got a metal detector that they are going to find gold from the Viking era of Norway.
However, it is a fun little activity that will get you a good deal of exercise.
