The role of the military at the Tomb Sentinel might seem like something that is very simplistic. Indeed, all it seems that you do is simply patrol the area.
However, there is much more to this job than just guarding a tomb. It takes a lot of professionalism, dedication, and the ability to adhere to an immense amount of rules. Needless to say, it is a position of extreme honor.
Some people might try to trespass in these areas, such as a woman at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. However, that isn’t a very good idea. Not a very good idea at all.
Of course, before we get into that, here is some history regarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and how the military has treated it.
In 1948, it was time for the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment to begin patrolling and watching over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and since that time this location has become the area where many powerful ceremonies take place that honor those who have taken the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Over four million people visit the Arlington National Cemetery each year. This is a site with a lot of history, but they also have many different rules and regulations in order to ensure that these hallowed grounds continue to be treated with respect.
Well, in that same vein, one visitor was in for a tremendous shock when she didn’t follow this exact protocol. The woman was dressed in white and she wanted to walk towards the tomb. Needless to say, she went under the ropes in order to get a closer look, but she was immediately reprimanded.
The soldier was very stern with her, and said, “It is requested that all visitors stay behind the chain rails at all times!”
Needless to say, the woman quickly learned the error of her ways after the military sternly corrected her and she went back behind the barrier and joined the crowd. Of course, she also tried to play it off, and it was then that the ceremony was able to continue.
Of course, this whole entire incident has to make you wonder what ever happened to common decency. Everybody has their “rights” nowadays.
Everybody wants to get their way. Everybody can do this. Everybody can do that. And the list goes on and on. I’m sure this woman played the victim on social media, no doubt.
What do YOU think about this? Was it just an honest mistake, or was the woman deliberately disrespecting our veterans? Share your thoughts below!
