Donald Trump won a huge ruling on the Supreme Court last week for immigration, and it has the liberal justices up in arms.
Suddenly, Justice Sotomayor is worried about politics entering the judicial system, complaining that her fellow conservative justices are doing Trump’s dirty work for him.
The Case
The judgment that created the fury is centered around a new Trump administration policy of “public charge.”
The new directive means that immigrants coming into the country will now have to prove they are not going to rely on government entitlement programs once they enter the country.
This is one of the ways Trump is trying to lower the stress on our entitlement programs and has been very well received by conservatives.
When the new law was announced, liberals and Dems went ballistic and the new policy was shelved while it worked its way through the courts.
As predicted, it went before liberal judges, all of whom ruled against the policy.
When it made its way to the Supreme Court, it made it through on a vote of 5-4, with everyone voting along ideological lines.
After the ruling was made. Justice Sotomayor took on the task of writing the dissenting opinion and she went off.
She wrote, “Claiming one emergency after another, the Government has recently sought stays in an unprecedented number of cases.
“It is hard to say what is more troubling, that the Government would seek this extraordinary relief seemingly as a matter of course, or that the Court would grant it.”
The really hypocritical aspect of her comments is that at no point when ruling after ruling went against this administration in the lower courts because of an Obama or Clinton appointee, did Sotomayor say a peep.
We all know that when it comes to this administration, for the most part, the outcome of a case is predictable simply by looking at who appointed the judge.
I hate to break it to you, Justice Sotomayor, but politics infiltrated our judiciary a long time ago, but liberals always seemed to have the edge.
That, clearly, is no longer the case.
Additionally, I would tell her at this time, we probably have the fairest Supreme Court we have had in decades.
There are currently three “conservative” justices that have regularly crossed the ideological line in judgments, which is far more than we can say about the left side of the court.
