Another unsung American hero was murdered in the line of duty, protecting your family from anarchy and mayhem. Officer Brian Pierce, Jr. of the Brooklyn Police Department in Brooklyn, Illinois “was fatally struck by a red Dodge Charger” at around 3:00 a.m. on August 4th. That was only the beginning of a disturbingly violent day. Less than an hour later, the investigation scene was attacked, forcing police to kill the driver of an assault Kia. As the funding levels for law enforcement go down, the violent crime records spike ever higher.
Officer brutally murdered
The incident involving the red Dodge Charger started near a local hangout. Police haven’t released the details of what caught their attention and prompted the pursuit, other than “the chase had originally began at an unspecified nightclub.”
As the fleeing Charger raced toward the McKinley Bridge, 24-year-old officer Pierce rushed to deploy stop sticks. He was in the process of doing that when the muscle car plowed right over him and kept going, straight across the state line into Missouri, with Illinois State Police still on the trail.
Apparently, the suspect was able to get far enough ahead of police to abandon the vehicle and escape. The Charger was recovered but the killer is still on the loose. “Officer Pierce was attempting to deploy the spike strips on the bridge just prior to the state line when he was struck. The vehicle continued to flee into St. Louis, where it was later found abandoned.”
That wasn’t the end of the day’s excitement, only the beginning. Back at the crime scene, where Officer Pierce was killed on the bridge, things took a stunningly dangerous twist.
“At 3:49 a.m. Wednesday, a gray Kia Optima drove through the roadblock towards the crime scene at a high rate of speed. The Kia struck multiple police vehicles and nearly struck multiple officers.” Initial reports suggest that “officers from the MCSD, and the BPD fired shots into the Kia and struck the driver.”
After that, the Kia stopped after crashing into two ISP vehicles assisting with the investigation” into the death of Officer Pierce. “All four occupants were taken into custody, including the driver, who was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.” It will be really interesting to find out what four thugs in a Kia were planning to do when they got there.

Doing what he loved
According to the Brooklyn Police Department, Officer Pierce had served with them “for nine months and had previously served with the Spillertown Police Department for two years. He also served with the Makanda Fire Department. He is survived by his parents.”
His Captain, Antonio White, describes him as “a very fine young man. Very energetic. When he came to work, he put a smile on your face.”
As Captain White relates, “He’s an officer that you’d love to have on your team, your unit. He’s there all the time. If he was off work he’d show up, he just loved doing his job and this is what he loved to do.”
As Chief Ron Battelle, who’s with pro-police group The BackStoppers, relates, “it’s hard anytime you lose a first responder. It is especially so when he was such a young man with a promising career ahead.”
The Brooklyn Police Department is especially saddened to have to list Officer Pierce as their very first member killed in the line of duty. With today’s liberal anti-police climate it’s getting harder all the time to recruit and train law enforcement officers.
Keeping them is becoming just as difficult. Every day it looks more and more like we’re being forced back to the days of Wild West lawlessness and do-it-yourself vigilante justice.
