A man who repeatedly called 911 over non-emergency matters was finally arrested after he asked the dispatchers if they wanted to buy egg rolls from him.

Man Goes Nuts

According to court documents, Huu Nguyen called 911 approximately 1,171 times just since July 15. None of these calls were emergencies.

News Channel 3 reports that he called 911 a staggering 241 on September 1 and a whopping 32 times on September 2.

Dispatchers Deal with Insane Calls

It seems the incident that pushed things over the edge was when Nguyen called and asked dispatchers if they wanted to purchase egg rolls and then he hung up.

He was found in a shopping center in Memphis and police took him into custody.

In general, some people find it difficult to decide if it is truly an emergency worthy of calling 911.

When to Call 911

According to 911.gov: “Generally speaking, people are aware that they should call 911 in an emergency, but they are less aware of the circumstances in which they should not call 911. The result is that many requests to 911 do not involve true emergencies, which overloads the 911 system with non-emergency calls.”

“Most people rarely face emergency situations and lack firsthand experience with 911. They may have unrealistic expectations about what will happen when they contact 911 for emergency assistance.”

If you were to mistakenly call, explain to the dispatchers what happened.

“If you dial 911 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 911 when no emergency exists, do not hang up – that could make officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker what happened.”

Charges and sentencing for Nguyen have yet to be released.
