Joshua Brown A Neighbor Of Both Amber Guyger & Botham Jean Shot To Death Friday Night
Joshua Brown,28, lived directly across the hall from shooting victim Botham Jean,26, and testified at the murder trial of Amber Guyger,31. The former Dallas police officer was covicted of murder last week, and sentenced to 10 years, she will be eligible for parole after five years.
Brown testified at Guyger’s trial on day two of the proceedings. Joshua said that he met Botham, an accountant with Price Waterhouse Cooper on the day he was murdered. Brown, who grew up in Florida, said he met Botham on the afternoon of September 6, 2018.
The two close in age smoked a joint together according to Brown. He said prior to meeting him, he heard Botham singing gospel music every morning. Hours after meeting, Brown heard gunfire as he was returning to his apartment from a bar where he watched a football game.
Brown made his way to his unit and looked out of the peep hole, to see Guyger pacing up and down the hall talking on her cell phone. Brown broke down on the stand as he recalled the mayhem of that night.
Only Days After The Guyger Verdict, Joshua Brown Was Shot To Death
Lee Merritt, an attorney for the family of Botham Jean, confirmed to CNN that he talked to Joshua Brown’s mother on Saturday. Mrs Brown confirmed that it was her son that was killed on Friday night.
Brown moved out of the apartment building Southside Flats where he, Botham and Guyger all lived shortly after the September 2018 shooting. Joshua moved with his family to Dallas, Texas in 2008.
He returned to Florida shortly after high school to attend college. He moved into the Atera Complex last year, Dallas police responded to a ‘shots fired’ call at Brown’s apartment building. Witnesses flagged down squad cars, and directed them to the parking garage.
Brown was found lying on the ground near his car with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Merritt said that Brown was shot in the mouth and chest, after he was ambushed as he got out of his car.
Attorney Lee Merritt Calls The Shooting ‘Extremely Suspicious’ & Believes Brown Was Targeted
Lee Merritt, who is now representing Brown’s mother, said that Brown was working a job, and not running on the streets. He and Brown’s mother, believes Joshua was targeted. Witnesses told police they heard multiple gun shots, and saw a silver colored sedan racing out of the parking garage.
Merritt said ‘he had no known enemies, he worked for a living, and he wasn’t into anything illegal. We must have answers immediately, Joshua was petrified that he too would be shot.
Brown said on the witness stand that, ‘it could have easily been him that was shot’. Joshua Brown worked closely with the Dallas County District Attorney’s office to prepare for his testimony in the Guyger trial.
Merritt said, “Brown’s murder underscores the Black Experience in America”. He said ‘the police must ensure justice, and hold whoever was responsible for this murder, accountable’. There are no known suspects at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, according to sources.
