An employee in the Department of Justice (DOJ) for 36-years is leaving the department because he is tired of Attorney General Bill Barrâs âslavish obedience to Donald Trumpâs will.â
Hatred for Trump Causes DOJ Employee to Quit
Phillip Halpern has spent more than three decades as an assistant U.S. Attorney and was under â19 different attorneys general and six different presidents.âÂ
The DOJ turncoat wrote an op-ed for the San Diego Union-Tribune on Wednesday that heavily criticized Barr for his ties with the president and for being a âwell-trained bureaucratâ who âseems determined to turn our democracy into an autocracy.âÂ
I want everyone know that I find myself a reluctant spokesperson. I am speaking out because I' ve dedicated my life to the Department of Justice and simply can't bear to see what it is becoming under the current AG. https://t.co/WPLCV9tyYT

He pointed out that he believes Senior U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said that Barr did not take seriously enough the conclusion of the Mueller Report. He also claims the AG distorted the special counselâs findings and called him a âlap dog.â
Accusations Against AG Barr
âUnfortunately, over the last year, Barrâs resentment toward rule-of-law prosecutors became increasingly difficult to ignore, as did his slavish obedience to Donald Trumpâs will in his selective meddling with the criminal justice system in the Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn and Roger Stone cases.
In each of these cases, Barr overruled career prosecutors in order to assist the presidentâs associates and/or friends, who potentially harbor incriminating information. This career bureaucrat seems determined to turn our democracy into an autocracy,â Halpern wrote.
Sticking Up for Violent Rioters the New Norm
The former DOJ associate accused Barr of acting inappropriately towards violent rioters.
âMore recently, Barr directed federal officers to use tear gas in Lafayette Park to quell what were, at that time, peaceful protesters.
Barrâs assertion the square was not cleared due to the presidentâs desire for a Bible-carrying photo op is laughable. It is certainly a case that Barr would lose before a jury (again, though, this may not be clear to him due to his unfamiliarity with jury trials),â he continued.
âBarr also turned his back on the rule of law by supporting the presidentâs selective use of federal troops to assault citizens protesting the killing of George Floyd in Portland, Oregon. Yet he stood silently by when armed right-wing protesters stormed the Michigan state Capitol building to protest the Democratic governorâs public health orders.â
Anyone close to President Trump has been attacked and slander. Could this just be another case of Trump Derangement Syndrome?
