While Democrat candidates continue to throw racist accusations at Donald Trump, it is their own party that is tacking flack for weeding out the minorities in this race.
When the DNC announced the new qualifiers for the next debate, it, in essence, assured voters there would be nothing but white candidates left on the stage.
The Party of Inclusion
I have always found it rather ironic that the party of inclusion has frontrunners that are all old, white, and rich.
And, it’s not that there are not or were not minority candidates in the race, because there were plenty of them.
However, their platform apparently does not agree with what the DNC wants, so the party has gradually phased them all out.
A political debate is where fringe candidates can make a big splash, but none of the minority candidates, at least at this point, will have a voice in that next debate because of the new standard set by the DNC.
Whittling Down the Field
At this point in the election, the argument can easily be made that only candidates with a legit path to the nomination should be on the stage.
However, it is also very easy to say that these candidates are often willing to say and do things frontrunners are not willing to do.
Because they have to make a splash, they will not hesitate to, for instance, call out Joe Biden and his son for possible corruption.
That will probably not happen this time around, though, because the standard set for this is going to remove all of those candidates from consideration.
Now, to be eligible, candidates must be polling at five percent in four qualified state or national polls, or they must be polling at seven percent in at least four qualified polls released between November 14 and January 10, 2020.
Additionally, the candidates must have contributions from at least 225,000 unique donors while also receiving at least 1,000 contributions from 20 different states.
At this point, there are only five candidates who have met that criteria and it does not look promising for the rest of the field.
All five of those candidates also happen to be white: Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, and Amy Klobuchar.
Michael Bloomberg has met the polling qualifications but he is unlikely to meet the fundraising numbers because he is not soliciting donations.
Senator Cory Booker was among those disappointed, stating, “This 5% one makes me a little curious especially because, I mean, the legendary 2003 December polling that had [Howard] Dean so far ahead and [John] Edwards and [John] Kerry below this threshold and then they go on to finish one and two.”
Additionally, nine presidential candidates penned a letter to the DNC asking it to open up the parameters, but the DNC does appear to be willing to back down at this point.
As this process continues to play out, expect to hear more cries of racism from within the party as well as the most racist candidate of the bunch, in my opinion, to come out with the nomination. That being Joe Biden.
All of which is pretty ironic considering how vocal both Joe Biden and his party have been regarding the alleged racism of Donald J. Trump.
This now seems more like a deflection from the party to hide the racism that clearly exists within the Democrat Party today.
