Lieutenant Colonel Alex Vindman bombed spectacularly as a star witness for Democrats hell-bent onĀ impeaching PresidentĀ Donald Trump. As a career Army officer with an impressive service record, Vindman provided theĀ āsmoking gunā in the Ukraine scandal.
Or at least he was supposed to.
Vindman “Summarizes” a Phone Call
As Director for European Affairs for the National Security Council, Vindman was supposedly present for a phone call between President Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky. Allegedly, the content of that conversation bothered Vinderman.
According to accusations, President Trump pressured Zelensky to investigate former Vice-President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee.Ā
“I was concerned by the call. I did not think it was proper to demand that a foreign government investigate a U.S. citizen, and I was worried about the implications for the U.S. Government’s support of Ukraine. I realized that if Ukraine pursued an investigation into the Bidens and Burisma, it would likely be interpreted as a partisan playā¦ā
However, itĀ now appears that Vindman lied about what was actually said between the two leaders.
In his call summary, Vindman wrote that among other things, President Trump talked about support for the Ukraine. He also spoke ofĀ ārooting out corruptionā .Ā Critics say the President was underhandedly tying U.S. aid to a Biden investigation.
That level of quid pro quo seemed obvious and supported the Dem narrative about the need for impeachment.
Summary versus Testimony
But as it turns out, the Lieutenant ColonelĀ lied.
During his sworn testimony, Vindman admitted that the ārooting out corruptionā portion of his summary was inaccurate. Not only did President Trump not bring up the topic, it was never discussed at all.
And when pressed by counsel on whether his official summary was false, Vindman hid behind political double-speak.
āThatāsĀ not entirely accurate, but Iām not sure I would describe it as āfalseāā, ā he waffled.
Because of such inconsistencies, Vindman was blasted by the Presidents and Republicans. Not surprising, not long after his testimony, Vindman was kicked off the NSC. He and his twin brother Yevgeny, also a Lieutenant Colonel, were escorted from the White House.
