Dereliction of Duty: Censure Biden NOW

More than twenty House Republicans, led by firebrand Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, have introduced a resolution to censure Joe Biden for his “dereliction of duty” at the southern border.

The twenty-three GOP representatives are calling out the Biden administration over the unprecedented surge of illegal immigrants coming across the border from Central America and other foreign countries — which hit a record of 180,000 in May — alongside the spike in arrests of drug smugglers, murderers, and sex offenders.

Kamala Harris, who Joe Biden named as his point-person on the border crisis, refused to visit the southern border for over 70 days since Biden tapped her for the role, which has led to a lot of criticism. Of course, after former President Donald Trump announced that he would be visiting the border, she finally announced she would be going. She made the trip to El Paso, Texas on June 25.

“My censure bill holds President Biden accountable for his actions — or lack thereof — at the border,” Rep. Boebert said in a statement prior to Harris’ announcement. “Biden has refused to enforce the laws securing our border, he has refused to visit our border, his border czar Kamala has refused to visit the border, and his Secretary of Homeland Security is lying to the American people by saying that our border is closed.”

Though the censure resolution was dead on arrival in the Democrat-run House, the announcement successfully highlighted mounting GOP frustration with the Biden administration on border security.

Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs spoke about the issue, calling the administration a “complete disaster,” pointing to this year’s one million illegal border crossings.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris have sent an unequivocal message that they prefer illegal immigrants over Americans,” Rep. Biggs said. “Their radical agenda has erased our southern border.”

In the 70-plus days since she was named as point-person on the border crisis, Republicans have been accusing her of avoiding traveling to the border in order to avoid drawing attention to the crisis. Instead of doing her job by actually visiting the border and seeing the problem firsthand, she traveled over the border to Mexico and Guatemala in early June to speak with leaders about the “root causes” of illegal immigration.

Republicans have also called out the Biden administration as a whole, accusing them of incentivizing illegal immigration through their radical policies and their reversal of Donald Trump’s policies, such as the remain-in-Mexico policy.

“President Biden’s reckless approach to our southern border is manufacturing a humanitarian crisis,” said Republican Rep. Bob Good, of Virginia. “President Biden has undermined his oath and taken Congress’ power into his own hands by granting blanket amnesty and failing to enforce the laws on the books. I am proud to join Congresswoman Boebert in calling for his censure.”

In early June, Rep. Boebert trolled Kamala Harris by traveling to the border with a life-size cardboard cut-out of Ms. Harris, saying in the video posted to her Twitter: “I brought Kamala down to see exactly what this regime is responsible for.”
