Democrat Stripped of Duties

A Democrat lawmaker in Michigan has been stripped of her duties and committee seats after threatening Trump supporters and others.

Michigan Representative Cynthia Johnson went viral over the weekend after revealing that she was being “targeted” over her actions in hearings last week involving Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani. Reportedly, one of the many calls she received warned that her “time was coming” and that she would be hanging “from the f–king gallows.”

In her response to these few unhinged callers, Rep. Johnson went way too far.

One of the two videos she posted on Facebook on Tuesday responding to the harassment, Johnson said: “This is just a warning to you Trumpers. Be careful, walk lightly, we ain’t playing with you. Enough of the shenanigans. Enough is enough.”

“For those of you who are soldiers, you know how to do it. Do it right, be in order, make them pay,” her ominous message continued.

Johnson has tried to walk back her comments, claiming they were misinterpreted. She removed the videos from her Facebook, but the internet is forever, and the damage is done.

In an interview with MLive, Johnson claimed that she didn’t mean for her comments to come off as threatening, making up excuses for her words.

“In my community, we often use the term soldier, but when we use the term, it means for people to rise up and not just take BS. It doesn’t mean anything violent. Our ‘rise up’ means rise up against racism, against tyranny, rise up against violence. No, my message was not one that was intended against the Trump people. We are talking about peace and unity,” she told the outlet.

Republican Lee Chatfield, the Michigan House Speaker, condemned Johnson’s comments, and announced that the representative will be removed from her duties and positions on the House Agriculture Committee, the Oversight Committee, and the Families, Children and Seniors Committee.

Trying to sound strong, Johnson claimed that she did not want her positions back, though she did state that Chatfield had not informed her of the actions being taken beforehand.

“They’ve given me more time to do what I need to do, and that is to help people. So thank you for making me nationally known. Thank you for putting racism on the record,” Johnson said.
