Crushing Blow for Nancy Pelosi and Impeachment Effort

Nancy Pelosi-2

The one thing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) cannot have during this impeachment is defections.

Pelosi’s worst nightmare is now coming true, though, as Rep. Van Drew (D-N.J.) is considering leaving the Democrat party to join the GOP.

Imminent Defection

During the last election, Van Drew reportedly had polls taken during the election to see if he was losing support among his Democrat constituents.

According to those reports, his disapproval rating was at almost 60 percent.

Now, he represents a suburban-moderate area of New Jersey, so some mumbling is expected, but that is a bit much for someone that expects to get re-elected.

Van Drew has is one of only two Democrats that voted against the impeachment inquiry and he is already on record saying he will vote against Trump’s removal.

That is no doubt why his approval rating is dipping among the hardline Democrats in his district.

On Friday, Van Drew had a personal meeting with Trump, as the President is trying to woo Van Drew away from the Democrat party and over to the GOP.

By all accounts, that meeting went very well and for the next election, Van Drew is now expected to change parties.

This will make it much easier for the Republicans in his district to vote for him and it is not likely to hurt him with more moderate Democrats already against the impeachment.

Embarrassing for Pelosi

This is bad news for Pelosi in that she told the entire country the ONLY way she would impeach Trump was if it was a bipartisan effort.

As we have already seen, that is far from the case.

Not a single Republican has voted in favor of this impeachment throughout the process thus far.

Not only that, but Pelosi is expected to have several Democrats cross the line and vote against this impeachment.

If you add a defection to the mix, it spells disaster for Pelosi and Democrats.
