CNN has decided to report the truth for once, instead of just left-wing talking points. In a recent article, the far-left “news” outlet decided to debunk a viral tweet about Donald Trump.
Viral Lies
The tweet, which claims that Trump’s second impeachment — not conviction, just impeachment — means that he wouldn’t be able to run for president again in 2024, is an obvious lie, but CNN viewers and readers are not as knowledgeable about these things as the rest of the population, apparently.
This lie was being shared by left-wing Twitter users soon after the storming of the Capitol building on January 6, during the time when Democrats were preparing for Trump’s second impeachment trial. On January 11, the tweet had already been shared more than 181,000 times, and had received over 725,000 likes.
The tweet read:
“For those wondering if it’s worth impeaching him this time, it means he:
1) loses his 200k+ pension for the rest of his life
2) loses his 1 million dollar/year travel allowance
3) loses lifetime full secret service detail
4) loses his ability to run in 2024″
Debunking
CNN chose to debunk the fake news point by point, writing:
“Facts First: The tweet is inaccurate in multiple ways:
1) Trump would lose his post-presidency pension only if both the House voted to impeach him and then the Senate voted to remove him from office; impeachment itself, without removal, would not result in Trump being denied any benefits.
2) The law makes clear that presidents who have lifetime Secret Service protection never get a $1 million travel allowance.
3) It is unclear that Trump would lose lifetime Secret Service protection even if the Senate voted to remove him and prohibit him from running.
4) Even a Senate vote to remove Trump would not prohibit him from running in 2024; for the Senate to ban him from the presidency, it would have to hold an additional vote on this question.”
The Bottom Line
It seems that this lie was so destructive that even CNN had to cover it, because it was giving false hope to the leftists suffering from ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’ Most of the lies that CNN refuses to debunk — or even report on — are good for the left-wing narrative, like the “mostly peaceful protests,” or the claim that Donald Trump has never denounced white supremacy. CNN wants to make sure their audience knows the truth, that Trump is still a threat, because its the only reason they still have an audience.
