Three police officers from Prince George’s County, Maryland were wounded while responding to a home invasion/robbery Sunday night.
Officers were responding to a call on Capitol View Terrace when the incident occurred. Police returned fire, but did not hit the suspects. Three officers and one civilian were wounded, and brought to a local hospital.
āWithin seconds they came under gunfire. They were ambushed,ā Interim Police Chief Hector Velez said at a news conference outside Prince Georgeās Hospital Center, where the officers were being treated.
At 6:35 pm Sunday, we responded to a call in the 1300 block of Capital View Terrace. 3 of our officers who arrived in the area were shot. They were rushed for treatment. We returned fire. 2 males are in custody. They were not struck. We will update soon.

One officer was shot in the foot, another was shot in the back. The third was shot in the chest, arm, and leg. They were all wearing bulletproof vests, which probably saved their lives, according to Velez. Only one officer will require surgery.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene. Police are still investigating both the shooting and the home invasion, and are unsure of whether the two suspects were the only people involved in both crimes.
