Police investigating mass shooting in Chicago

A mass shooting occurred in crime-ridden Chicago last night around 11:30, leaving six men injured. The shots are believed to have been fired from a car that was passing by the gathering, near South Parnell and 85th street in the Gresham neighborhood.

Victims

The youngest victim of the shooting was 17 years old, he is said to be in fair condition after a bullet grazed his head. Two of the victims, a 29 year old and a 37 year old, are in critical condition at University of Chicago Medical Center.

According to police, the 29 year old man was shot in the neck and back, while the 37 year old was shot in the head. Two victims, 21 and 29, were both shot in the back and leg, but are believed to have been in fair condition upon arriving at the hospital.

The final victim, a 28 year old, was shot in the arm and taken to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition.

Just a Normal Occurrence in Chicago

Chicago, an already violent city, has seen an increase in violent crime this year, especially murder. Chicago saw 105 murders in July, more than double the 44 that occurred in July 2019.

Chicago also reported 584 shooting victims in July, which is up dramatically from 308 in July of 2019. This has made July the most violent month that Chicago has seen in 28 years.

According to official police statistics, the 6th police district, which includes Gresham, has seen a 38% increase in shootings through August 16th compared to the same time frame of 2019.

Police are still investigating, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
