An affluent suburban neighborhood about 20 miles north of downtown Atlanta in Cobb County, Georgia, is on lockdown Tuesday morning as the SWAT team continues negotiations with an obviously armed and dangerous gunman barricaded into his home.
Lone gunman terrorizes entire neighborhood
UPDATE: Police have the gunman in custody, “ending a SWAT situation that lasted for hours.” His name has not yet been released. Neighbors will be patching some bullet holes but no injuries were reported. The “armed suspect was taken into custody shortly after noon.”
An entire neighborhood is on lockdown, with residents ordered to shelter in place and roadblocks set up to keep anyone from entering the area. A lone gunman has barricaded himself in a home on Kingsley Drive in the Newcastle subdivision of East Cobb. Everyone between “Castle Lane and Vinyard Court need to shelter in place.”
Police spokesman Sergeant Wayne Delk announced that “neighbors called 911 around 5:30 a.m. to report gunshots.” SWAT was called and the gunman remains barricaded inside while they attempt to negotiate. “At this point, the neighborhood is shut down and we are continuing to work to resolve this as peacefully as we can.”
When officers of the Cobb County Police arrived on the scene, the suspect was “shooting inside and outside the home.” An official police tweet warns that “the gunman is still actively shooting in the area.” Both entrances to the Newcastle neighborhood are blocked off.

Between 20 and 30 gunshots
Police aren’t saying what kind of weapon or weapons are being used or how many rounds fired, but neighbors report “hearing between 20 and 30 gunshots.” Authorities believe the gunman is alone in the home and no injuries have been reported at this time.
This is a developing story and it will be updated as further information develops.
